Overview

The Admitting Specialist at Hopedale Medical Complex serves as the first point of contact for patients, handling registration and admissions with a focus on customer service. This role involves managing patient information, assisting with financial inquiries, and ensuring smooth patient flow in a healthcare setting.

Key responsibilities

  • Greet patients and answer incoming phone calls
  • Record patient demographic, insurance, and billing information
  • Counsel patients regarding financial issues
  • Provide information on billing, patient rights, and hospital policies
  • Collect and record payments
  • Maintain orders from referring offices
  • Compile patient payment estimates
  • Screen calls to assess urgency
  • Keep the waiting area orderly
  • Order and maintain supplies
  • Ensure confidentiality of patient information

Required skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience in medical office reception
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Understanding of patient registration procedures
  • Strong telephone communication skills
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Typing speed of 35-45 wpm preferred
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of insurance procedures
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
