Overview

Maine College of Art & Design is inviting applications for an Adjunct Faculty position in Woodworking & Furniture Design for Fall 2026. The role requires a dedicated educator who can teach and motivate students in a part-time capacity, subject to enrollment and course demand. The college, located in Portland, is a central figure in the region's artistic community, providing a diverse learning environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Teach one or more courses in Woodworking & Furniture Design per semester.
  • Follow Department Chair's guidelines to ensure consistent content coverage.
  • Administer and grade student assignments, providing timely feedback.
  • Maintain accurate class attendance records.
  • Conduct classes in line with course syllabi and departmental regulations.
  • Be accessible to students for consultation and feedback.
  • Participate in department meetings when possible.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Required skills

  • MFA in Woodworking & Furniture Design preferred; BFA with relevant experience accepted.
  • Experience in advanced joinery and knowledge of woodworking techniques.
  • Previous teaching experience in higher education.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to critique and encourage student work effectively.
  • Experience with diverse student backgrounds.

What the company offers

  • $4,250 - $4,750 per course, per semester.
  • Compensation based on experience and qualifications.
  • Position is not benefits-eligible.
