Overview

Maine College of Art & Design is seeking applications for an Adjunct Faculty position in Woodworking & Furniture Design. The role is part-time and requires teaching courses while engaging students through personalized instruction. The position is contingent on enrollment and course offerings for the Fall 2026 semester.

Key responsibilities

  • Teach one or more courses in Woodworking & Furniture Design each semester
  • Follow guidelines to ensure consistent content coverage across course sections
  • Administer, grade, and provide timely feedback on student work
  • Maintain accurate attendance records
  • Be accessible to students for consultation and feedback
  • Participate in department and college meetings when possible
  • Foster a positive working environment

Required skills

  • MFA in Woodworking & Furniture Design preferred, BFA with relevant experience considered
  • Experience in advanced joinery and woodworking techniques
  • Knowledge of historical and current trends in woodworking
  • Previous teaching experience in higher education
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to critique student work effectively
  • Experience with culturally and socially diverse student backgrounds

What the company offers

  • $4,250 - $4,750 per course, per semester based on qualifications and experience
