Overview

Maine College of Art & Design is seeking an Adjunct Faculty member for the Woodworking & Furniture Design department for Fall 2026. The role requires a dedicated educator with a strong commitment to student engagement and professionalism, who will teach courses in woodworking and furniture design while contributing to a creative and inclusive learning environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Teach one or more courses in Woodworking & Furniture Design per semester.
  • Conduct classes according to the course syllabus and catalog description.
  • Administer, grade, and provide feedback to students to monitor their progress.
  • Maintain accurate class attendance records.
  • Be accessible to students for course consultation and feedback.
  • Participate in department meetings when possible.
  • Foster a positive working environment free from bias.

Required skills

  • MFA in Woodworking & Furniture Design preferred; BFA with relevant experience considered.
  • Experience in advanced joinery and a diverse portfolio of wood objects.
  • Knowledge of technical, historical, and conceptual aspects of woodworking.
  • Previous teaching experience in higher education.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to critique art and motivate students.

What the company offers

  • $4,250 - $4,750 per course, per semester.
  • Compensation determined by experience and qualifications.
