Overview

Maine College of Art & Design is looking for an Adjunct Faculty member in Woodworking & Furniture Design for Fall 2026. The ideal candidate will be a dedicated educator committed to engaging students and fostering a positive learning environment. This position is part-time and contingent upon student enrollment and current course offerings.

Key responsibilities

  • Teach one or more courses in Woodworking & Furniture Design per semester
  • Follow Department Chair's guidelines for content coverage and student experience
  • Administer, grade, and provide feedback on student assignments
  • Maintain accurate class attendance records
  • Be accessible to students for consultation and feedback
  • Participate in department and college meetings as possible
  • Support and enforce College and Department regulations and policies

Required skills

  • MFA in Woodworking & Furniture Design preferred, BFA with relevant experience considered
  • Experience in advanced joinery
  • Knowledge of technical, historical, and conceptual aspects of woodworking
  • Previous teaching experience in higher education
  • Skill in effective written and oral communication
  • Ability to critique art technically and conceptually
  • Experience working with culturally and socially diverse students

What the company offers

  • $4,250 - $4,750 per course, per semester
  • Final compensation based on experience and qualifications
