Overview

Pacific Life is looking for an Actuary & Director for their Enterprise Assumption Review team. This role involves collaboration across various departments to review and develop actuarial assumptions while maintaining robust governance and controls. Based in Newport Beach, CA, the position requires on-site work four days a week, with one day of remote work and relocation assistance available for candidates not near the office.

Key responsibilities

  • Drive collaboration across the enterprise to review actuarial assumptions.
  • Act as lead or supporting reviewer of biometric assumptions across multiple product lines.
  • Identify inconsistencies and highlight areas for improvement in assumption development.
  • Maintain enterprise-wide guidance and champion best practices for assumption monitoring.
  • Deliver comprehensive peer review reports and support assumption governance projects.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders to enhance assumption processes.

Required skills

  • 7+ years of actuarial experience with FSA or equivalent designation.
  • Expertise in assumption setting and methodologies.
  • Experience with predictive modeling, machine learning, and AI.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to present complex information clearly to various audiences.
  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, finance, computer science, or related field.
  • Experience with R and Python.
  • Understanding of Embedded Value and international reserving practices.
