Job Description

Overview

The Accounts Payable Specialist is a critical role within a fast-paced accounting team in Washington, DC, focusing on high-volume invoice processing and vendor management. The position involves ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal controls, while also supporting month-end activities.

Key responsibilities

  • Process high volume vendor invoices with accuracy, including proper coding and approvals
  • Perform three-way matching of purchase orders, invoices, and receipts
  • Prepare and process weekly payment runs (check, ACH, and wire)
  • Research and resolve invoice discrepancies and respond to vendor inquiries
  • Maintain vendor files, W 9s, and payment terms
  • Reconcile AP subledger to the general ledger and assist with account reconciliations
  • Support month-end close activities, including accruals and AP aging reviews
  • Assist with 1099 preparation and other year-end reporting
  • Identify opportunities to improve AP processes and internal controls

Required skills

  • 2+ years of accounts payable experience in a high volume environment
  • Strong understanding of AP processes and reconciliations
  • Basic accounting principles knowledge
  • Proficiency in Excel
  • Experience with accounting systems such as Sage Intacct, Workday, Dynamics, Costpoint, or similar ERP platforms
  • High attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Professional communication skills
