Job Description

Overview

As an Accountant/Sr Accountant in Payroll Accounting for American Airlines, you will be part of the Accounting team within the Finance division. This role involves managing day-to-day corporate accounting processes, preparing and analyzing account reconciliations, and completing various projects. You will work closely with corporate divisions to identify and resolve accounting issues, ensuring compliance and efficiency in financial reporting.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure timely resolution of reconciling items and discrepancies in accounting data
  • Prepare and provide documents for external auditors and SOX compliance
  • Review process maps and perform internal controls for SOX compliance
  • Assist in designing, developing, and implementing accounting systems and modifications
  • Document and escalate system issues to the IT department
  • Provide guidance on accounting issues to business groups
  • Train new team members on business processes and system applications
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to business processes and accounting assumptions
  • Maintain documentation for business and system processes
  • Represent the department in internal and external communications

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent experience
  • 3 years of combined public accounting or corporate accounting experience
  • Master's degree or CPA preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of US GAAP and SEC regulations
  • Understanding of internal controls and SOX compliance
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to lead projects and mentor junior employees
