Overview

The 911 Diversion Specialist at Contact Community Services Inc. plays a vital role in Onondaga County's Person in Crisis Navigation Program, providing immediate mental health and crisis intervention support to individuals contacting Onondaga County 911. Scheduled from Saturday to Wednesday, 11pm to 7am, the specialist conducts assessments and develops intervention plans tailored to the needs of individuals in distress, ensuring coordinated care with emergency responders.

Key responsibilities

  • Respond to 911 calls involving mental health and substance use crises
  • Conduct initial assessments to determine the needs of individuals in crisis
  • Develop and implement crisis intervention plans
  • Refer cases needing higher levels of care to emergency responders
  • Monitor the status of ongoing responses and relay information between responders
  • Ensure implementation of PIC Navigation Program guidelines and protocols
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all interactions and interventions
  • Act as call center Crisis Specialist for crisis lines
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development
  • Meet call center performance metrics

Required skills

  • Experience in a mental/behavioral health setting, particularly in crisis intervention
  • Strong empathy, communication, and interpersonal skills
