Software Engineer (Trajectory)

About the Role

Join leading AI research labs and apply your software engineering expertise to enhance AI model reasoning. This role involves reviewing real-world coding tasks, documenting problem-solving approaches, and contributing to the development of structured datasets that capture authentic developer thought processes.
Location: Remote (APAC & Global)
Employment Type: Contract / Hourly Independent Contractor
Hours: 15–25 hours/week (flexible, up to 40 hours)

Project Overview

• Support advanced AI coding capabilities through structured dataset creation.

• Work with real software engineering scenarios sourced from open-source repositories.

• Capture step-by-step reasoning and decision-making processes of developers.

Key Responsibilities

• Review AI-generated code trajectories on SWE-bench style tasks.

• Reconstruct detailed reasoning behind solution approaches.

• Annotate decision points, debugging strategies, and technical choices.

• Leverage full codebase context, including issues, tests, and pull requests.

• Ensure annotations reflect authentic software engineering practices.

Technical Requirements

• 2+ years of hands-on software development experience.

• Strong proficiency in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar languages.

• Experience debugging complex codebases and resolving technical issues.

• Familiarity with Git workflows, pull requests, and issue tracking.

• Ability to articulate technical reasoning clearly in written form.

Project Details

• Duration: 1–2 months (with potential extensions)

• Pace: Self-scheduled within weekly minimum commitment

Ideal Candidate Background
